3 Days Gorilla Trekking Safari (Rwanda)

Overview

This 3-day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari is a professionally curated short expedition into Volcanoes National Park, one of Africa’s most refined and well-managed gorilla trekking destinations.

Set in Rwanda’s dramatic northwestern highlands, the park forms part of the Virunga volcanic mountain range, a region defined by mist-covered slopes, dense bamboo forests, and extinct volcanic peaks. This is one of the most accessible and organized gorilla trekking experiences in Africa, offering a smooth blend of comfort, conservation, and adventure.

The safari is designed for travelers seeking a high-quality, well-structured, and time-efficient gorilla encounter, supported by professional ranger guidance and strong conservation systems. It is ideal as a standalone short safari or as an extension to Kenya, Tanzania, or Uganda itineraries.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you are met by your professional driver-guide. After a short briefing, begin a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park in the Musanze region. The journey passes through Rwanda’s iconic rolling hills, terraced farms, and lush countryside, often referred to as the “Land of a Thousand Hills.” Arrive in the evening and check in at your lodge located near the park. Dinner and overnight stay in the Volcanoes region.
After an early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for a detailed briefing by Rwanda Development Board rangers. You are assigned to a specific gorilla family group based on fitness level and trekking conditions. The trek begins through bamboo forests, volcanic slopes, and dense vegetation. The duration of the trek varies depending on the movement of the gorilla families. Once located, you are allowed a strictly regulated time in the presence of the gorillas, observing their natural behavior in complete silence and respect for conservation rules. After the trek, return to the lodge for rest and relaxation. Dinner and overnight stay in the Volcanoes region.
